To get up the steep, slippery slope, you need a combination of leg work, balance and driving technique. After two hours we are only two kilometres further: One of the motorcycles is knee-deep in the mud. With a bamboo stick and manpower we pull it out bit by bit. The sweat runs down in streams at us. The three litres of water that we carry with us per person are coming to an end. We ask Yang how far it still is. He smiles and says: “Still a good 23 kilometres”. Will we still be able to do that today?
